Dr Katja Empson is an Emergency Physician working at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. She has worked as a consultant for the last 9 years and for the last 5 years has had a special interest in deceased organ donation. She has worked as a Clinical Lead in Organ Donation for the University Health Board of Cardiff and Vale developing a local multidisciplinary simulation course to encourage best practice in managment of potential organ donors and their families and was also closely inovlved in writing the NHSBT Organ Donation in Emergency Department strategy document. For the last year she has been the Regional Clinical Lead for Organ Donation in South Wales. Her work in Organ Donation has spanned the period of time of the public consultation on the Human Transplant Act Wales 2013 and she has been closely involved in the clinical side of the implementation of the change in legislation and consent.
