Brain plasticity after allotransplant
Contrary to the classical view of essentially predetermined neural wiring, studies conducted in animals and humans show a high degree of plasticity in the motor system. Does limb transplantation induce a cortical rearrangement of the body representation in the sensorimotor cortex? If so, what is the time course of such reorganization?
I will present results revealing a new dimension of cortical motor plasticity in both motor and in sensory cortical areas.
