Dr James Fung is a Consultant at the Department of Medicine, and a Transplant Hepatologist at the Liver Transplant Centre, Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. His main research interests are in viral hepatitis, liver fibrosis, advanced liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver transplantation. He is also currently an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong, and the Honorary Treasurer of the Hong Kong Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He was awarded the New Zealand Society of Gastroenterology Research Scholarship in 2005, Young Investigator Award at the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver in 2010, Young Investigator Award at the International Liver Transplant Society in 2012 and 2014, Distinguished Research Paper Award for Young Investigators by the Hong Kong College of Physicians in 2012, and the Distinguished Young Fellow award by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2013. He has published widely and is a regular speaker at both local and international meetings.
